Background of the study
Digital platforms have revolutionized the way information is disseminated globally, enabling real-time communication across diverse linguistic communities. Nigerian Pidgin, as a dynamic and widely spoken creole, is increasingly featured on these platforms to reach a global audience. Digital translation tools and social media networks have facilitated the rapid conversion of content into Nigerian Pidgin, making news, entertainment, and educational materials accessible to users worldwide (Adamu, 2023). These platforms leverage both automated translation systems and human translation efforts to ensure that cultural nuances are maintained. However, challenges persist regarding translation accuracy, contextual relevance, and the balancing of colloquial language with formal registers. The study assesses how digital platforms contribute to the translation of Nigerian Pidgin content for global audiences by analyzing case studies, platform performance metrics, and user engagement data. This evaluation aims to determine the effectiveness of current digital translation practices and to identify areas for improvement that could enhance global communication and cultural exchange (Ibrahim, 2024).

Statement of the problem
Despite the widespread use of digital platforms for Nigerian Pidgin translation, issues such as translation inaccuracies, loss of cultural context, and inconsistency in language style remain prevalent (Adamu, 2023). These challenges can lead to miscommunication and reduce the effectiveness of content targeted at global audiences (Ibrahim, 2024). This study seeks to identify the shortcomings of current digital translation practices and assess how they affect audience engagement and comprehension, thereby providing recommendations for improving digital translation quality for Nigerian Pidgin.

Objectives of the study:

  1. To evaluate the role of digital platforms in Nigerian Pidgin translation.
  2. To identify translation challenges specific to digital contexts.
  3. To propose strategies for enhancing digital translation accuracy.

Research questions:

  1. How do digital platforms facilitate Nigerian Pidgin translation?
  2. What challenges affect the quality of digital translations?
  3. What measures can improve translation for global audiences?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it examines the impact of digital platforms on Nigerian Pidgin translation for global audiences. The findings will aid technology developers, translators, and cultural institutions in enhancing digital translation practices, promoting better cross-cultural communication and global engagement (Adamu, 2023; Ibrahim, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to the role of digital platforms in Nigerian Pidgin translation for global audiences and does not cover offline translation practices.

Definitions of terms:

  • Digital platforms: Online tools and social networks used for content dissemination.
  • Nigerian Pidgin: A creole language widely used in Nigeria.
  • Global audiences: International users and communities accessing digital content.
